Well, what are you waiting for, applications for the 2020 edition of the Mandela Washington Fellowship: Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) are due on the 9th of October!
YALI is an executive-style program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Current Affairs which began in 2014 with the intention to build skills and empower youths to lead in their respective sectors & communities.
The program (YALI) comprises Leadership Institutes and the Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit; where the former is 6 week studies at U.S. college & university campuses, & the latter is a multi-day meeting with local business leaders in the public, private & non-profit sectors. Both the stages are aimed at encouraging connections, collaborations and strong partnerships between citizens of Sub Saharan Africa and those from the United States of America.
Applicants for the 2020 Fellowship are required to be between the ages of 25 & 35 on or before the application deadline; have a demonstrated commitment to public/community service & volunteerism; strong social and communication skills; an energetic, positive attitude; & the ability to work cooperatively in diverse groups and to respect the opinions of others.
