(particularly female) artists of spoken word, known for challenging norms and the status quo in society.
We are looking for spoken word content from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe which addresses different themes not limited to gender-based violence, child abuse, freedom of expression, the effects of global warming on environment and natural resources, migration arts and culture.
The artist form eligible for submission include poetry performances, storytelling, interfaced with some elements of music and visual art and the poetry performances will include a wide range of performance styles, including direct delivery, rap, slam, hip-hop, etc.
The Harare International Festival of the Arts, HIFA, is a multi-disciplinary artistic platform for expression which includes music, theatre, dance, spoken word, fashion, applied art and design and facilitates the exchange of ideas with a large focus on collaborations, including those from developed arts and markets who might not have had the opportunity to interact with art and artists from Africa and indeed from within closer-to-home connections such as USA, Korea and Australia.
