To achieve
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), countries would have to double their
efforts in scaling up development and uplifting the lives of their citizens.
And this can only be possible through promoting public access to information
and civic engagement on SDGs. And the media, both online and offline, can
play a critical role in this regard. Online media has the ability to connect many people and it can be used to mobilise different sectors of society and developmental partners to work towards achieving SDGs.Through the use of social media, information about SDGs can easily be disseminated among the public and this could drum up support for developmental programmes. On the other hand, offline media is affordable hence it can be effective in transmitting stories that would stimulate people’s desire to achieve development. For instance, the plight of the children in the image could attract mass support for poverty eradication efforts. |
